Maybe it’s the free water and Wi-Fi? Free parking? Free admission? An art gallery showcasing local art? The knowledgeable staff of local volunteers? The historic displays of the London Bridge? Or simply all of the above that so impressed travel reviewers on TripAdvisor, the international online travel site.
For the second consecutive year, the Lake Havasu City Visitor Information Center, located just beneath the London Bridge in the English Village, has won a Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor, which boasts more than 315 million members and over 500 million reviews and opinions of hotels, restaurants, attractions and other travel-related businesses.
The award, a result of positive reviews for the Center, was announced last month by TripAdvisor.com. Currently, of the more than 140 reviews, 55 percent rated the Visitor Center as “excellent,” while 30 percent rated the facility as “very good.”
Kristine B. of Silverdale, Wash., writes, “Fantastic Visitor Center, very knowledgeable staff. They have a great display of how they got the bridge and brought it here and rebuilt it. Worth the time.”
Crzywestiewomyn from New Baltimore, Mich., is a fan as well.
“The volunteers absolutely love their city! They are welcoming and ready to make suggestions. I enjoyed looking around the center and learning more about the area. Welcome centers are typically our first stop in new areas and this one is topnotch.”
Founded in 2010, the Certificate of Excellence honors hospitality businesses all over the world that deliver consistently great service and earn enthusiastic traveler reviews on TripAdvisor over the past year. To qualify, a business must maintain an overall TripAdvisor bubble rating of at least four out of five, have a minimum number of reviews, and have a TripAdvisor listing for at least 12 months.
Visitor Center Director Jan Kassies, a former educator from The Netherlands, feels pride not only for the Center, but for his staff of volunteers.
“It tells me a lot about the volunteers that we have here,” Kassies said. “We do a good job. This is the first place many of our visitors will visit when coming to Havasu.
“It’s one thing for a visitor to compliment the staff’s service and hospitality, but when those people return to their homes after visiting Lake Havasu City, and remember the service well enough to give a positive online review, it means more than a simple compliment,” said Kassies who leads an informative 90-minute historic tour of the London Bridge Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 11 a.m. (October through April).
Located in a former theater, the newly expanded Visitor Information Center is at 422 English Village. It’s just inside a priceless 1862 gate from Witley Court and Gardens in Worcestershire, UK, across the courtyard from a restored fountain.
The Visitor Information Center is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week. Tel. 928- 855-5655
