“A man walks into a bar with a dog.” No joke. You’d think an entrepreneur would be barking up the wrong tree by opening a bar that welcomes man’s and woman’s best friend. Think again. With its indoor off-leash dog park and full bar, the new That Dane Bar, at 2213 West Acoma Blvd., will accommodate Havasu’s beer and wine lovers–and their four-legged friends.
Local residents and visitors alike are barking up a storm to get in. “Havasu is a very dog-friendly environment, and I hope to provide people with a safe place to bring their pets. We have beer, wine and non-alcoholic options,” owner Lisa Benz tells Today’s News-Herald, the local newspaper. According to Benz, she faced a few hurdles in opening her new business, but city employees and contractors helped tremendously in assisting her. She was first inspired to create her business several years ago, while sitting in an office.
“Someone said, ‘I want a beer,” Benz said. “I said, ‘I want my dogs.’ And the idea kind of clicked.” The bar is comprised of a lounge area, as well as an off-leash area where dogs can run and play with their friends while you socialize with yours. Next time you’re looking for “hair of the dog,” you’re in luck. You can pet some real dog hair while asking the “barktender” for a post-hangover cocktail. It’s a great place for pooches and the peeps who care for them.
Lake Havasu City loves dogs. In fact, we have numerous web pages devoted to our dog-friendly parks and restaurants. Visit our lodging page to see which hotels welcome Fido – last time we looked, there were 32 hotels, condos, RV parks, resorts and campsites listed.
