Arizona Mountain Biking: Lake Havasu City's Terrific Trails
Larry Smith explaining the thrill of the Arizona mountain biking experience in Lake Havasu City
Larry Smith was the owner of AZBuilt Sports, avid cyclist, Arizona State Cycling Champion, paddler and organizer of Another Dam Race, a popular bike race which later morphed into an outrigger canoe and standup paddleboard racing event.
Larry was an advocate for cycling safety, which made his untimely death in July 2015 from a biking accident, along with that of partner Deb Robison, all the more tragic.
An active all-around outdoorsman, Larry was always eager to help The Convention & Visitors Bureau promote Lake Havasu City as an adventure destination. This page is dedicated to his memory.
Mountain biking in Lake Havasu City is great for those who like to hike, but also enjoy cycling. In SARA Park, there are trails to ride, slide, climb, and jump through at all levels of difficulty. Take in the stunning desert terrains or make your way to a mountaintop where breathtaking views of the lake and city are abundant. All ages are welcome to hit the trails, making this a fantastic family outing full of adventure and exercise.
Didn't bring your own mountain bike? No problem, Lake Havasu City has many bike rental facilities to fit any need. Arizona mountain biking weather in our desert climate is ideal from October to April, but many people bike year-round. Be sure to bring water with you and a helmet for safety.
The Mountain Bike Association of Arizona hosts several events at SARA Park throughout the year. The biggest events are Attack the Crack on Thanksgiving and the MBAA Race in February. Registration is required for these events to qualify for the cash prize.
Parking for the trails at SARA Park are along Dub Campbell Parkway (click here for SARA Park map). There is plenty of free parking and the trails are color-coordinated to help you on your way. Many people frequent these trails on bike and foot as well as local wildlife such as bighorn sheep and burros. Keep an eye out and enjoy the view as a one-of-a-kind Arizona mountain biking experience unfolds before you!
